ICYM Udupi Diocese hosts Yuva Dabazo 2026 at St Lawrence Parish Hall Moodubelle
Yuva Dabazo 2026 Brings Udupi Diocese Youth Together in Faith and Fellowship
Moodubelle, September 20, 2026: Sammithra, the Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM) of Udupi Diocese, organised “Yuva Dabazo 2026,” the annual youth even, at St Lawrence Church campus, Moodubelle, on September 20, 2026 bringing together young people from across the Diocese for a day of faith,
The programme began at 9:15 a.m. with the celebration of the Holy Eucharist presided over by Most Rev. Dr Leslie Clifford D’Souza, Bishop of Udupi Diocese, along with Rev. Fr Steevan Fernandes, Director of the Youth Commission; Rev. Fr George D’Souza, Parish Priest of Moodubelle; and Rev. Fr Milton Fernandes, SDB, Principal of St John Bosco School, Kelmbet. In his homily, Bishop Leslie reflected on the day’s Gospel from Matthew 20:1-16, the parable of the workers in the vineyard. He reminded the youth that God calls each person at different moments and invites everyone to take part in His mission. He encouraged them to respond generously to God’s call and serve others with love.
Following the Eucharist, Bishop Leslie hoisted the ICYM flag, after which the ICYM anthem was sung. The formal inauguration of Yuva Dabazo 2026 was conducted in a unique and creative manner. An egg-shaped structure was opened by pulling a ribbon, revealing a large ribbon inside bearing the name “Yuva Dabazo 2026,” symbolising the unveiling of the event and the energy and enthusiasm of the youth.
The inauguration was attended by V. Rev. Fr Stephen D’Souza, Chancellor of Udupi Diocese; Rev. Fr (Dr) Alphonsus D’Lima, retired priest residing at Milagres Home; and Rev. Fr Steevan Fernandes, along with youth leaders and participants from various parishes of the Diocese.
Addressing the youth, Bishop Leslie spoke on the theme “Called to Love and Sent to Serve.” He reminded the young people that they are not merely the future of the Church but active members of the Church today. He encouraged them to strengthen their relationship with Christ, use technology responsibly, remain connected with their families and faith, and take an active role in parish life. He urged them to move from “they” to “we” by accepting responsibility and becoming servants and leaders in the Church and society. He also encouraged young people to pursue education and careers while remaining rooted in their faith and values. Concluding his message, he challenged them to respond whenever the Church calls, serve those in need and courageously say “yes” when God calls them
The event continued with various compeityitoins (Unit wise: Spotlight, Pitch Battle, Faith valutz, JAM and Mosaic Art; Deanery wise: Rhythm and roots) and recreational activities, providing the youth with opportunities to demonstrate their teamwork, leadership and fellowship. The activities created an atmosphere of joy and enthusiasm among the participants from different parishes of the Diocese.
The valedictory programme was held in the evening, marking the conclusion of Yuva Dabazo 2026. The programme celebrated the participation and achievements of the youth and brought the day’s activities to a meaningful close.
Yuva Dabazo 2026 served as an occasion for young people of Udupi Diocese to come together in faith, friendship and healthy competition, while being reminded of their call to love, participate and serve.
